Mushimasmingili Thila is a vast marine park, with its southeast corner famously known as The Fish Head. Once a classic shark fishing spot, it is now fully protected. Grey reef sharks are commonly seen here, along with a variety of other fish. The reef top sits at around 10 meters, while the southern edge drops down to over 40 meters.
Diving activity is mainly focused around the Fish Head, a square-shaped reef roughly 80 meters across. On a dive with mild currents, it’s possible to circle the entire thila. The reef features numerous overhangs, ledges, and caves, with the northern and western sides considered the most interesting. Some deeper caves add extra exploration opportunities.
Sharks are often most active on the up-current side of the thila, where divers can hold onto overhangs and watch them closely. If divers stay relatively still, the sharks’ natural curiosity often brings them near. Occasionally, they will come in for a cleaning, exposing their chest and opening their mouths.
The reef top is teeming with fusiliers and snappers, while the thila’s sides host not only sharks but also Napoleon wrasse, giant trevally, and schooling barracudas.
