Thoondu Beach – Fuvahmulah’s Natural Wonder
Thoondu Beach, located on the unique island of Fuvahmulah in the Maldives, is unlike any other beach in the country. Instead of soft white sand, the shoreline is covered with smooth, naturally polished white pebbles locally known as Thoondu. These tiny, round stones sparkle in the sunlight and shift with the waves, creating a mesmerizing natural phenomenon called Bissaaveli, where the pebbles form a circular lagoon-like pool during certain seasons.
The turquoise waters, powerful surf, and striking pebble shore make Thoondu not just a picturesque spot but also a culturally significant landmark for locals. It is a place for gatherings, traditional celebrations, and quiet evening strolls while watching the sunset.
Thoondu Beach is also special because it’s one of the few places in the Maldives where nature feels both raw and untouched, offering visitors a chance to experience the island’s true character beyond luxury resorts.
